1st August 2002

Dear Jo,
HAPPY FRIENDSHIP DAY!

"God is so wise that he never creates friends with price tags because if He did, I would not be able to afford a friend as precious as you!"

Oh before I go, I wanna inform you I'll be leaving for Sukma (Sabah) end of the month, 2 weeks before school holiday. I'll be skipping school for 2 weeks.

Beng Wee didn't come last week so I can't reply your letters. Looking forward to them.

Hey Jo,
Sorry I didn't receive your letter last week because Beng Wee had forgotten to bring it for tuition. I hope he'll bring it today.

Anyway, what happened this week? I heard Tee Uz Shyang passed away. I guess it's the talk of the school now, if not only among the Form 4s. I feel very sorry for his family. He's so young! I was shocked and really scared when I heard the news. My mum told me the school band wrote their condolences.

Last Saturday, in Youth Fellowship, my church invited this speaker, Jeffery Sim from Penang. He went to US to study. He's now a shrink/psychiatrist. He asked us, "What's the biggest problem in Malaysia among the youths?" We decided to say that profanity was the problem. To cut the story short, in conclusion, he said whatever problems we face, be it profanity, sex before marriage, etc. is actually because we don't accept ourselves for who we are. So we swear at others because we wanna bring them down to our level to make ourselves feel good.

Joanne, you have to learn to be confident about yourself. Don't worry so much. You'll make a very good CF leader. Of course, I myself am not a leader-type. I prefer to follow than to lead. Give it a try. It's for God. Pray about it and ask for courage and wisdom to lead.

Hey Jo,
How do I know that God is working in me? Hmm...well, actually I don't know the answers but I believe that in time you'll see that there's a difference in yourself. Other people will notice it if you don't.

I'm also still working on trusting and putting my faith in God. Coz when I'm angry, I tend to question and blame Him. Nobody's perfect. And my pastor always tells the congregation, "Focus on what He has done for us and not what you can do for Him.."So I guess don't worry so much, as long as you BELIEVE in Him. I hope it answers your questions.

I think you're a great listener and you have wise words to tell others. That's your gift. To me, you heal broken hearts - like you healed mine.

I'd better stop here before I bore you. I like to be your diary coz you're mine as well. Except this 'special diary' responds. I'm just glad we have each other.
